Our first day of camp was jam packed with exciting activities, games, and getting to know the Humane Society a little better.
Our day started out with decorating name tags and getting to know our friends.
Michelle, a vet in Williston, brought her three dogs: Odin, Ritter, and Roomer. Outside of being a vet, Michelle volunteers through Therapy Dogs of Vermont. She brings Ritter and Odin to libraries, schools, hospitals and camps in order to help spread smiles.
We had a quick snack then started our tour of the Humane Society. This included meeting the cats, guinea pigs, and bunnies. We learned about what the volunteers do each morning to ensure that the animals in the shelter are happy, healthy, and comfortable. At the end of our tour, we explored out back and learned about the three feral cats that camp out behind the shelter. Aladdin, Cameron, and Mr. Jingles that the Humane Society provides shelter, food, and water to every day, year round. Throughout the week, campers will be helping to give these cats food and water. While we may never get to meet them due to feral cats' tendency to avoid humans, we'll know that we are keeping them full, healthy, and safe.
We're looking forward to a week full of more phenomenal days!
Heads up:
Friday, we will be doing a pet share and encourage campers to bring in a picture of any of their pets (or perhaps stuffed animals or pets that they know if they don't have any at home). These can be brought in any day throughout the week!!
