Wednesday at Camp Paw Paw

Follow this link to check out all of our photos from this week at Camp Paw Paw! We will be adding new photos throughout the week: https://photos.app.goo.gl/eeufJuhYvHR4LYuG3

What a Wednesday at Camp Paw Paw! This morning campers made their own paper turtles, worked on some 2D & 3D animal puzzles, made more peanut butter kongs for the shelter dogs, and another group of campers were excited to provide fresh food & water to our feral cat friends.

IMG_8444.JPGBefore snack campers helped to feed our box turtle Carman her own snack of 2 live worms! After our snack, Counselor Heather talked with our campers about how to handle smallies (small animals) such as rabbits, hedgehogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, and even baby animals such as kittens and small puppies. We learned that it is important to approach them calmly, slowly, pick them up by scooping a hand underneath and hold them close to your body when picking up and setting down making sure their feet are on the ground before letting them go. Campers practiced with our stuffed animal bunny and 3 hedgies. Then we practiced picking up and setting down Carman the turtle like a sandwich! IMG_8442.JPG

IMG_8480.JPGSqueak! Squeak! What is that? It’s a bat using it’s echolocation as explained by our Head Counselor Jess as she taught our campers all about bats! We learned where and when to find bats, what the anatomy of a bat looks like, and how they use echolocation to swoop through the air to catch their prey, which usually is mosquitoes. We finished the morning with a lively game of bat echolocation tag where some campers & counselors were blindfolded bats with a seeing eye helper and everyone else was mosquitoes trying to get away while squeaking to imitate the bats echolocation ability. Important Notes:

***Friday, we will be doing a pet share and encourage campers to bring in a picture of any of their pets (or perhaps stuffed animals or pets that they know if they don't have any at home). These can be brought in any day throughout the week!!

*** Please walk with your camper to the tent during drop off & pick up times to make sure we are able to check off that your child has arrived at camp or is leaving camp. We want to know who is here when they arrive and we especially do not want to miss seeing a camper leave and think they have gone missing. Thank you for your help and support in keeping our campers safe :)
