Wednesday at Camp!

Today, camp started out by finishing our pine cone bird feeds from yesterday and a few jobs to help the animals at the shelter. Some campers helped to feed and give water to the three feral cats that live behind the Humane Society. Cameron, Mr. Jingles, and Aladdin are incredibly thankful for the campers’ help. Other campers helped fill Kongs with peanut butter and treats. These Kongs are frozen and every night when the HSCC staff leaves, they give each dog in the shelter a frozen peanut butter Kong to play with and snack on throughout the night! Both of these activities will be continued throughout the rest of the week.
Once everyone had regrouped, we played a round of games in the field before starting our talk about how to handle smallies. Campers first brainstormed what different small animals were and then learned about the safe and proper way to pick up, pet, and take care of many small animals. Heather and Jess were excited to share about their own experience with pet bunnies and hedgehogs!
Next, our adventure to Red Rocks Park began. Campers trouped through our mile walk without complaint and with eager questions. We took a quick group picture then walked down to the picnic tables for snack. This was followed by intense work on animal themed Mad Libs, numerous games (such as poison dart frog), and drawing activities. On our way back, campers were encouraged to collect a rock for tomorrow’s morning project. By the time we had returned to the white tent, many campers (and perhaps a few counselors) were ready for their afternoon nap.
Reminders:
  • Pet Share Friday, campers are encouraged to bring in an animal or pet related item to share with the group (picture/stuffed animal/etc.).
  • We are still collecting toilet paper/paper towel rolls to make cat toys later this week!

We’re so excited to start our fourth day of camp tomorrow!
