Today was a terrific Tuesday at Camp Paw Paw! We started the morning with a craft activity where campers made their own paper turtles and decorated them with different heads, feet, spots, and tails. After campers chose to stay in the tent to color animal pictures or went out to the field to play Sharks & Minnows and The WA Master animal game. During snack time campers discussed what "Humane" means and how we can be humane to other people, animals, bugs, and even plants.

Our camp was treated to a wonderful Pet First Aid guest speaker, Garrett Levin, a vet from BEVS (Burlington Emergency & Veterinary Specialists), who shared x-rays of dogs & cats who ate some very interesting objects. Garrett also shared information about how he became a vet and what vets do on a daily basis. Then the campers were able to practice bandaging their group animal and shared their patient's name and story with the whole camp group.
After our guest speaker, we went on a scavenger hunt in the pet cemetery by the camp where campers learned about the different pets buried there. While leaving the cemetery we collected pine cones to make peanut butter, bird seed bird feeders that we will be hanging up in the trees around camp and letting campers take home as well.
We finished the day with a feline surprise! The campers had the opportunity to hang out with three kittens from the shelter: Alice, Logan, and Ginger who were just as excited as the campers were!
***Reminders:
Tomorrow we will be taking a walk from camp to Red Rocks for a nature walk on the trails there, so please be sure your camper wears comfortable shoes for walking, other than that they just need their snack and a water bottle.
Pet Share Friday, campers need to bring in an animal or pet related item to share with the group (picture/stuffed animal/etc..), We are still collecting toilet paper/paper towel rolls to make cat toys later this week!
